How to Enable or Disable Pause Updates Feature of Windows Update in Windows 10

Windows Update keeps Windows 10 updated by downloading and installing the latest updates, drivers, and hotfixes released past Microsoft.

Starting with Windows x build 15002, y'all tin temporarily intermission updates from being installed for upwards to 7 days (Insiders) or 35 days (non Insiders). Some updates, similar Windows Defender definition updates, will continue to be installed.

OPTION ONE

Enable or Disable Pause Updates using Local Group Policy Editor


The Local Group Policy Editor is only available in the Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise, and Teaching editions.

All editions can employ Option Two below to set this policy.

1 If you take paused updates, you will need to plow off interruption updates (resume updates) earlier standing.

2 Open the Local Grouping Policy Editor.

3 In the left pane of Local Group Policy Editor, navigate to the location below. (run across screenshot below)

4 In the right pane of Windows Update in Local Group Policy Editor, double click/tap on the Remove access to "Pause updates" feature policy to edit it. (see screenshot in a higher place)

5 Practise step vi (enable) or footstep 7 (disable) beneath for what you would like to do.

six To Enable Pause Updates

A) Select (dot) Non Configured or Disabled, click/tap on OK, and get to step8 below. (see screenshot below)

Non Configured is the default setting.

eight Close the Local Group Policy Editor.

nine Restart the calculator to apply.

Selection Two

Enable or Disable Suspension Updates using a REG file


The downloadable .reg files below will add and modify the DWORD value in the registry key below.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

SetDisablePauseUXAccess DWORD

(delete) = Enable
1 = Disable

1 If yous have paused updates, you will need to turn off pause updates (resume updates) before continuing.

iii To Enable Pause Updates

This is the default setting.

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 5 beneath.

A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file beneath, and get to step five beneath.

5 Salvage the .reg file to your desktop.

six Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

7 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yeah (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

viii Restart the reckoner to apply.

9 When finished, you can delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.
